Remember Surfer?

Our volunteer vet/tech team from November, Courtney Pierce and Andrea Flynn, successfully raised enough money for Surfer to be sent to Oldtown Veterinary Hospital in North Carolina. He had suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car more than 6 months ago, however now he is receiving the critical care that he needs. With all the technology provided at their hospital the extent of all his troubles are being revealed; giarida and ehrlichia infections, a broken left leg,and the right side of his pelvis is broken and rotated inward.

Nevertheless, our former Nicaraguan beach dog, Surfer, is adjusting quite well to his new surroundings and believe it or not LOVES snow!

January Clinic Results

After 3 and 1/2 days of clinic and almost pulling an all nighter, 30 animals have been sterilized and 48 animals have been seen in total. 5 of the animals sterilized were our female spider monkeys to prepare for their relocation to the soon to be established monkey sanctuary at Domitila Reserva Silvestre Privada.

Our hats are off to Mike Corcoran and Adrien Zap! Go team! They came as part of our volunteer vet program, sponsored by Piedras y Olas Hotel.

We would like to thank everyone that brought in their animals and for your very generous donations. We can't keep it up without your support!

We are now looking for a vet and tech team at the end of March to cover spay neuter aftercare following our World Vets community wide clinic.

A Monkey Collaboration

Since last year we have been campaigning to build a primate enclosure for our 6 rescued spider monkeys. Due to current changes at their present location we are unable to realize its construction at their present site. As such, our friends at Paso Pacifico have helped us find a great alternative location to build the enclosure that will house our monkey population.

Our newest collaboration is with Domitila Reserva Silvestre Privada located at the foot hills of Mombacho volcano, where our monkeys will call home. We are excited to inform you that construction will commence in the next few weeks!

We still require contributions to complete the project and any support that can be given is greatly appreciated. Donations can be made through Fundacion A Jean Brugger and should note monkeys or enclosure on the description

Flipper, our resident pelican

Start the New Year off by doing a good deed - Adopt a cat or pelican!
Flipper, our resident pelican, had a fateful run in with a boat propeller that has left him unable to fly. He needs someone to provide him a pool full of water and some fresh fish!

January Clinic Hours

Stones & Waves Veterinary Clinic welcomes volunteer vet Mike Corcoran, who will provide veterinary assistance for our community in January.

Clinic hours are as follows:

January 23rd:
8 am - 12 pm Spay Neuter Surgery
2 pm - 4 pm Consultations

January 24th:
8 am - 12 pm Spay Neuter Surgery
2 pm - 4 pm Consultations

We strongly advise that you contact us and schedule any spay neuter surgery ahead of time. This will help us prepare for the right number animals - we do not want to turn anyone away for lack of medicines and supplies. Please write to veterinarian@piedrasyolas.com
If we receive many requests for spay neuter surgery we will open Monday 25th to meet demand.
